PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES

Assessment Consultation & Treatment
This is basically our initial contact meeting where we will discuss why you are seeking therapy just now.  I will explain how I work, the duration of each session, the mode of contact, the confidentiality aspect and what to expect from therapy.  It is at this stage that you will also complete some standard information and contact detail forms. This initial consultation session is also to establish whether I am the right therapist to deal with your presenting issues. If I feel that you need to be referred to another professional, I will endeavour to assist you with this also.
Intensive Support Programs
These are basically tailored support programs which are offered to individuals who may prefer not to undergo longer weekly therapy sessions.  They may have issues such as high anxiety levels, suffer from panic attacks, are unable to integrate socially due to low self-esteem and confidence levels.  One such programme which is currently running is an eight week programme called ‘Connecting with Confidence’.  It was designed for individuals over fifty years of age.
Child, Adolescent and Family Services
Here I provide family support to families who are struggling to cope with any kind of psychological or practical issues.  I work in partnership with various services such as schools, doctors, social workers, educational psychologists, alternative therapists, support teachers outside school and other professionals who are deemed necessary. I also run parenting programmes and adolescent programmes. This is to ensure that the voice of the child as well as the parent is heard, thus improving the wellbeing of children and their families.
Parent-Teacher Support Services
This is a service which offers a type of mediation support to parents who struggle to communicate effectively with teachers in finding solutions to problems which their children face while attending school. Meetings are arranged between teachers, school counsellors and other interested parties (depending on the issue), to resolve any disputes/misunderstanding/concerns which either party needs addressed.  This facilitates open communication thereby bringing about an amicable resolution. Working in partnership is key to providing realistic and workable solutions for all parties involved.
Adolescent Traumatic Support
Individual therapy sessions offered to young people who may be feeling lost and isolated. This can be due to their inability to communicate their feelings and fears regarding normal teenager issues. These issues can include: relationships, body image, peer pressure, exam related stress, self-confidence and self-esteem.  Other issues which are becoming more prevalent are suicide ideation, bullying and effects of social media, sexuality and understanding their own self worth.
Infant Loss Support Services
As an accredited FIL (Foundation for Infant Loss) counselling professional, some of the services offered to parents and families are; bereavement care, healing, remembering baby/child along with providing links to on-line resources such as support organisations, access to family support packs e.g. JOEL.  The loss of a child is truly devastating and it is a lifelong journey. Training can also be given to nursing staff in maternity wards and Well-Woman clinics. Also to funeral directors, teachers, police and others to help support bereaved parents and families during this trauma.

About Therapy and Me

Systemic therapy focuses on relationships:  how people relate to each other and to themselves, how ideas they have about other people and themselves influences their behaviours and what they say. Systemic therapy enables clients to find ways to act differently.  It is less interested in pathology and more interested in the way in which people understand and relate to one another.

This therapeutic approach does not isolate an individual, but rather it takes account of the family as an organic whole, whatever form that family group might take. Individuals, couples and families are facilitated to make sense of their lives and difficulties in the context of their family formation and how the family functions.  This approach allows me as a therapist to work with families which most other therapy modes or services do not facilitate.
